STOP GORDON SMITH Protests at ALL Smith Offices

December 5, 2007 - 9:48am
Start: Dec 5 2007 - 11:30am End: Dec 5 2007 - 12:30pm

Where: All of Sen. Gordon Smith’s offices (see list below)
When: Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11:30AM-12:30PM.
Why: Gordon Smith says he’s against the Iraq War, but his votes are all over the place.

“Here, There, Everywhere” The Oregonian has said that Gordon Smith is “here, there, everywhere” on the Iraq War (Oregonian, 2/10/07)

Gordon Smith needs to vote against the Iraq War every single time, not just when it’s politically convenient. You can’t vote against withdrawal one day and make up for it the next. We need consistent support to end this war, not someone who changes their mind one day to the next after reading the polls. We need consistent votes, not convenient votes. We need Smith to stand up against the war, not sit down when Bush asks him to. Up-and-down votes won’t end this war. Is Smith for the war or against it?

Each time Smith votes to fund the war and keep troops in Iraq is another day our troops stay in Iraq. 2007 has been the deadliest year of the war yet- we need politicians committed to ending the war, not committed to boosting their poll numbers.

Fight Hunger in '08: Oregon Food Bank Barrel in Washco Dems Office

December 5, 2007 - 9:47am

January OFB Donation Update:
Once again we want to thank all our generous donors who brought food
into the office for the OFB Barrel. The holidays may be over, but many of our neighbors are still struggling, so the call for your help continues.
On your next visit to the office, please remember to bring a donation of non-perishable food. You can help a family who might otherwise have to choose between feeding themselves and paying the rent or heating bills.
You'll help a family in need and you'll feel really good about yourself too!
And of course you can still donate money at the Oregon Food Bank website.

Spread Good Cheer and Fight Hunger: Oregon Food Bank Barrel in Washco Dems Office

December 5, 2007 - 9:47am

December OFB Donation Update:
Thanks to all who have made donations to the Oregon Food Bank barrel in the Washco Dems office. Your generosity has made a real difference to many people who are less fortunate than others, who must choose between feeding their kids or themselves, between food or rent, between food or heat.
I hope all of us can make an extra effort this holiday season to remember to pick up a few extra items at the grocery, just for our donation barrel. If you shop at Costco, Bi-Mart or other 'club' store, consider picking up an extra flat or carton of food, just for our barrel. It only takes a few minutes, a few dollars and makes such a BIG difference!
And consider making a cash donation to OFB -- Instead of that new video game, feed a family! You can even sign over part or all of your holiday bonus or Oregon kicker check to OFB and make a serious dent in hunger!
Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

TVWD - Water Source Decision Meeting

The board will meet to approve the staff recommendation regarding the source of water.   (See the attached agenda.)

The staff recommends that the Board make the presumptive selection its adopted supply alternative, and that the District continue with its participation in the TBWSP up to 27,000 acre-feet of water in an expanded Hagg Lake.  Further that the District dedicates exclusively the $12.5 million listed under the Water Supply Improvement Project in the FY 07-09 budget to the TBWSP.  As a result of allocating the budgeted funds to the TBWSP, the District will not be making capital expenditures in the Willamette River Water Supply Project.

Mark Hass selected to fill vacancy in Senate District 14

October 20, 2007 - 9:37pm

The Washington and Multnomah County Boards of Commissioners have selected Mark Hass to fill the SD14 vacancy created by Ryan Deckert's move to the private sector. Hass is a former Oregon State Representitive, and recently filed an application to run for the seat in 2008. The public meeting was held on Tuesday Nov 20th at the City of Beaverton Council Chambers.

The commissioners selected from candidates Betty Bode, Mike Bohan, Mark Hass and Shantu Shaw, who were nominated at a convention of elected and appointed Precinct Committee Persons of the Democatic Party. SD14 covers portions of Aloha, Beaverton, Garden Home and SW Portland, and contains HDs 27 & 28.

Congratulations to Mark and our most sincere thanks to all the fine candidates who ran for this position.
